Uilleann Pipes in Manchester


The beautiful sound of Ireland's foremost instrument, the Uilleann Pipes, can be heard on Saturday 13 December 2008 in Manchester.


There will be workshops for beginners/improvers at Manchester Town Hall during the day and an evening concert at St Catherine's Hall, School Lane, Didsbury, Manchester.


The special guest is virtuoso piper TiarnĂ¡n O Duinnchinn, who is one of the great pipers to emerge from the world renowned Armagh Piper's Club http://www.tiarnan.ie/

New Mayo CDs


Mayo broadcasters from Mid West Radio have produced three doumentaries on the hunger strikers Sean(Jack) McNeela, Michael Gaughan and Frank Stagg.


They were ordinary people in extraordinary cicumstances who showed incredible courage and commitment. There's much fascinating details in these CDs.


Gaughan and Stagg both died here in England - Michael Gaughan had strong connections with Manchester.


Dying for the Cause: The Story of the Mayo Hunger Strikers are three CDs produced by Liamy MacNally and Teresa O'Malley from Mid West Radio, Mayo. They cost 20 Euros including p+p.

Full Irish Day at M19 Bar


On Sunday 2 November 2008 between 2pm and 6pm there will be a Full Irish day at M19 Bar, 847, Stockport Rd, Levenshulme, Manchester.


As part of Levenshulme Festival there will be an afternoon of live Irish music and dance for all the family with Joe Casserley & the Full Irish team 2pm- 6pm. Admission is free.

Levenshulme Celebrates


Levenshulme celebrates its tenth annual two week festival from Friday 24th October to Sunday 9th November. Large numbers are expected to enjoy a wide range of events.


Performers will take part in an arts and music programme and Manchester City Council's sports development team will be running a free children's half-term multi-sports week during the first part of the festival.


Diversity of Appearance is the theme of the launch night on Monday 27th October between 7pm and 11pm at M19 Bar, 847-849, Stockport Road, Levenshulme, Manchester.

For admission donations will be made to a Polio Children's Charity.

Traditional Session


Margot Ryan from the Irish World Heritage Centre has been in touch. There will be a traditional Irish music session organised by Michelle O'Leary from Comhaltas at the Centre on 16th October from 9.00pm.


With young and old musicians alike this promises to be a great event. Musicians welcome but you can just come along and enjoy the music if you don't play!

New Morrissey Book


Music journalist Len Brown has just released a new book on Manchester-Irish singer Morrissey. Over the years Brown interviwed Morrissey on many occasions and these provide the basis for the book. This face to face contact with the star makes the book unique, claims the author.
